As a young biologist, I was constantly frustrated by the fact that most of my colleagues believed in the notion of “irreducible complexity.” A theory that states that complex biological systems can never be produced by random chance. A theory that, depending on the definition is very appealing to biologists, but it is not science. It is nothing more than a metaphysical speculation, an appeal to luck. There are plenty of examples of evolution at work in nature, so it is not necessary to invoke mere chance out of hand.
